Who should attend

During this one-day 8 hour CEU class, practitioners will build confidence in assessing myofascial dysfunction and practice applying the therapeutic Functional NeuroMyoFascial TechniquesTM for the hips, shoulders and neck. Step-by-step protocols for evaluating and treating “Mover-Stabilizer” muscles will be demonstrated, followed by practicums to gain hands-on experience in utilizing specific active, dynamic manual therapy techniques to provide pain relief, activate stabilizers and restore functional mobility. These techniques are easy to apply in supine and designed for myofascial trigger point therapists, myofascial bodyworkers, and massage therapists eager to learn more about myofascial pain and dysfunction.

Learning Outcomes: Students will demonstrate proficiency in assessing myofascial pain & dysfunction and identify common pain pattern in the hips, shoulders and neck; be able to identify active and latent trigger points; be able to identify distortions and weaknesses in different combinations of “Mover and Stabilizer muscles”; and be able to demonstrate basic competence in applying specific dynamic Functional NeuroMyoFascial TechniquesTM during therapeutic massage/bodywork or myofascial trigger point therapy.

Learning Objectives:
1. Be able to identify common myofascial pain patterns and dysfunction in the hips, shoulders and neck
2. Be able to recognize the impact of historical injuries on the NeuroMyoFascial system
3. Be aware of contra-indications /“Red Flag” conditions before using Functional NeuroMyoFascial TechniquesTM
4. Accurately identify the muscles that act as the “movers and stabilizers” in the hip, shoulder and cervical spine
5. Practice & Apply specific active, dynamic Functional NeuroMyoFascial TechniquesTM to resolve pain, dysfunctional movement patterns and activate specific

Your Instructor, Shannon Goossen, AP, BA, LMT, CMTPT

Shannon Goossen, AP, LMT, CMTPT owns a private practice in Jacksonville, FL. She is president of Comprehensive Myofascial Therapy Associates, established in 1996. She teaches nationally about FSM (Frequency Specific Microcurrent) and offers web based training opportunities through http://www.FrequenciesthatMEND.com In 2018 she was the lead instructor and trainer for a 3 1/2 month demonstration project for the DoD to evaluate the efficacy of incorporating microcurrent and bioenergetic devices in hospital outpatient care at Nellis AFB. In the last 5 years she has continued to teach both live and remote at Nellis, Eglin and Scott AFB supporting the Nellis Integrative Medicine Clinic research projects. She has also been an invited presenter for Richard Neimtzow, MD RAMP course, US NAC, Walter Reed AIM and PainCare Skills every year since 2020.

In Florida, Shannon is a Licensed Acupuncture Physician, Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist. Shannon has a bachelor degree in Biology and graduated from Hendrix College in 1986. As a recognized national expert in treating myofascial pain and dysfunction, she expanded her clinical practice by completing her AFMCP (Applying Functional Medical in Clinical Practice) certification through the Institute for Functional Medicine. This certificate allows Shannon to broaden her health care modalities for the most complex patients. Additionally, Shannon has collaborated with her husband, an orthopedic spine surgeon, for over 20 years applying integrative medicine concepts in clinical practice and during pre and post-operative periods with enormous success. She is a contributing writer to two textbooks (Clinical Mastery in the Treatment of Myofascial Pain 2004, Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques 2005) and has had several articles published on spinal disorders, myofascial pain and dysfunction, and clinical evaluation methods. Many of her cases are published in the 7th and 8th Annual Microcurrent Case Conference Proceedings.

Shannon has been teaching how to integrate microcurrent into clinical practice for nearly two decades. She served on multiple boards including the Academy for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy, the National Association for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist executive committee (Vice President & President) from 1999-2004, and the international editorial board for the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapy (2001-2012). Additionally, she has been presenting at national meetings since 1999 and offers regular CEU workshops on subjects including myofascial pain & dysfunction, spinal disorders and rehabilitation, neurological screening and evaluation, and the use of microcurrent and bio-energetic devices in clinical practice.Currently her FSM protocols, Functional NeuroMyoFascial Techniques & Mover Stabilizer Model & Methods™ and the Walking Release™ are being implemented by MDs, PTs, OTs, LMTs, LAcs, NPs & DCs.
